Personal trainers try and simplify how to lose weight by telling you that all you need to do is track your calories, and in some cases your protein too


And while that is true (weight loss is as simple as calories in and calories out) there is so much more to losing weight than simply following this method


And this is one of the reasons at Gym Reb3l why we do not get our clients to track calories and scan and weigh their foods


Here are 3 simple steps to help you to lose weight and understand what it really takes to lose weight and keep it off


Step 1: Understand Your Goal


People want to lose weight because of how it makes the feel


If we didn't feel overweight, uncomfortable in our clothes and/or low levels of fitness


Then we wouldn't want to lose weight


And this is the case whether you want to lose 5lbs or 50+lbs


We lose weight because of how we feel


But all of this comes down to one thing


We all want to lose weight because nothing beats how feeling healthy FEELS

As mentioned before, from the outset losing weight is simply about eating less calories than you need


But like I also said, there is so much more to it than that


Very few people will be able to change their eating and exercise habits and lose weight easily


For most it is a journey of set backs, mistakes, days/weeks off but eventually getting to your goal


That is the reality of losing weight for most people


So understanding how to lose weight is important


understand that you will make mistakes, that you will skip days, that you will miss workouts, that you will have days where you don't feel like it


This is all part of the process of losing weight and the quicker you understand that through the process, the new habits you are trying to install are going to take time then the better it will be for you


Never let one mistake or one bad meal dictate the rest of the outcome and just accept it and make sure the next is the best


Step 3: Why You Need To Focus on Habits


We gain weight because of habits.... which means we also lose weight because of habits


Your goal when trying to lose weight is to identify the habits needed to get to the body shape that you want


And then make changes to your current habits


What people don't tell you about this though is that our bad habits are still there


As mentioned above you will have days where you might binge or times when you might slip back in to the habit of having extra alcohol through the week


You need to identify the habits that you currently have and which ones are stopping you from getting the results that you want


Once you have done this then you can start to work on new habits and build these in to your lifestyle
